About Lumexo
Lumexo is a small editorial desk run by Lumexo Shop Inc. in Sacramento, California. We write about how big things get built, and why they so often cost more than anyone said they would.
What we publish
Our long reads cover architecture, civil engineering and the economics underneath them: budgets, contracts, schedules, and the decisions that shape a project long before the ground is broken. We write for curious general readers, not specialists. You don't need a background in construction to follow along, and we try to explain the technical parts rather than skip over them.
How we work
Every article is researched and written by our own team. When we describe a real project we rely on public, citable reporting: official inquiries, government audit reports, company statements and established reference works. We link these in a sources list at the end of each piece. Cost figures for large projects vary with what is counted (land, financing, later repairs), so we state the basis of each number and call estimates estimates.
- Attribution first. Figures are tied to a named source that readers can check.
- Ranges over false precision. Where reporting differs, we say so.
- Credited images. We use openly licensed photographs and credit the author and licence for each one.
- Corrections. If you can show us an error, we will fix it and update the page date.
What we are not
We are not an engineering firm, a cost consultancy, a law firm or a financial adviser. Nothing on this site is professional advice. We do not rate or recommend contractors, and nobody pays us to write favourably about a project, company or product.
